Dental X-Rays
Dental X-rays are an important part of your child’s oral health care at WSPD Kids. They help us detect cavities, monitor the growth and development of teeth and jaws, and identify hidden issues like infections or bone loss that aren’t visible during a regular exam. By catching problems early with X-rays, we can prevent discomfort and avoid more complex treatments down the road.
At WSPD Kids, we use safe, low-dose digital X-rays designed to minimize radiation exposure—often even less than what a child naturally encounters in a single day. We follow strict safety protocols and only take X-rays when they’re truly necessary, ensuring your child receives the highest quality care with the lowest possible risk.

Examination/Consultation
After your child’s routine dental cleaning at WSPD Kids, the dentist will conduct a thorough exam of their teeth, gums, and overall oral health. This visit is not only about assessing dental development—it’s also an opportunity to build a positive, trusting relationship that supports healthy habits for life. We’ll share personalized tips for at-home dental care based on your child’s unique needs.
If we identify any concerns, such as cavities, enamel wear, or early signs of other dental issues, the dentist will walk you through the findings in detail. If further treatment is needed, we’ll clearly explain the recommended next steps and help you schedule a convenient follow-up appointment.
Dental Cleanings and Hygiene Instructions
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, children should see a dentist by their first birthday or when their first tooth comes in—whichever happens first. Early dental visits at WSPD Kids help lay the foundation for a lifetime of healthy habits and allow us to track your child’s oral development right from the start. While daily brushing and flossing are essential, regular professional cleanings and exams are just as important to remove plaque buildup and prevent cavities—even with excellent home care.
During a typical check-up, we’ll gently polish your child’s teeth using kid-friendly toothpaste flavors, all in a fun and relaxed environment. They can even watch a favorite movie while we work! Our team will also discuss your child’s diet, demonstrate effective brushing and flossing techniques, and provide personalized tips to support great oral hygiene at home.

Fluoride Treatments
At WSPD Kids, our fluoride treatments use a safe, quick-drying varnish that adheres to your child’s teeth, reducing the risk of swallowing. Typically applied at the end of most dental visits, fluoride helps strengthen tooth enamel and prevent cavities. For children who are more cavity-prone, we may recommend more frequent fluoride applications as part of their personalized preventive care plan.
After treatment, your child can eat and drink right away—but we recommend avoiding hard or sticky foods for 4–6 hours to allow the varnish to stay in place. Our dentist may also discuss additional sources of fluoride, such as fluoridated water, toothpaste, or mouth rinses, to help protect your child’s teeth between visits.
BPA-Free Sealants
At WSPD Kids, we’re dedicated to helping every child grow up cavity-free—and dental sealants are one of our most effective tools for prevention. Sealants are thin, protective coatings applied to the chewing surfaces of baby molars, adult premolars, and permanent molars—areas where cavities are most likely to develop. Because toothbrush bristles can’t always reach into the deep grooves of these teeth, sealants act as a barrier to keep out food particles and plaque.
We recommend applying sealants as early as possible to protect your child’s teeth before decay has a chance to start. This quick, painless procedure costs less than a filling and can last for several years with proper care. Sealants are a smart, long-term investment in your child’s oral health, helping to reduce the need for more extensive dental treatment in the future.

Sports Mouth Guards
If your child plays contact sports like football, hockey, or basketball, it’s essential to protect their smile with a high-quality sports mouth guard. These guards help prevent serious dental injuries—such as chipped, broken, or knocked-out teeth—that can result from impact during play. As your child’s adult teeth begin to emerge, protecting them becomes even more important.
While over-the-counter options exist, a custom-made mouth guard offers superior fit, comfort, and protection. Designed specifically for your child’s mouth, it allows for easier breathing and speaking during games and practices. Ask our team at WSPD Kids about getting a professionally fitted mouth guard to keep your child’s teeth safe—on and off the field.
