After-hours on-call service
If your child is experiencing a true dental emergency, please call us immediately at 516-737-1080. At WSPD Kids, we offer 24/7 emergency dental care for our patients to quickly address urgent dental issues and ensure your child’s comfort and safety.
If your child has injuries beyond the mouth or is in severe distress, please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room right away. Your child’s health and well-being are our highest priorities.

Toothaches
If your child has a toothache, begin by gently cleaning the affected area with a toothbrush and toothpaste. Have them rinse thoroughly with warm water, and use dental floss to remove any food trapped around the painful tooth. For pain relief, you can give your child Tylenol or Motrin according to the package instructions—but never apply aspirin directly to the tooth or gums.
If you notice any swelling on your child’s face, apply a cold compress and contact WSPD Kids immediately. Facial swelling may indicate a serious infection or other urgent dental issue that requires prompt professional attention.
Trauma
Baby teeth should never be reinserted into the gums, as this can harm the developing permanent teeth beneath. Children often experience facial and dental injuries from sports or accidents like bicycle falls. If your child suffers trauma, stay calm. For injuries beyond the mouth, call 911 or go to the emergency room immediately.
If a permanent tooth is knocked out (avulsed), quick action is critical to save the tooth. To care for a knocked-out permanent tooth, hold it by the crown (the chewing surface) and avoid touching the root. Rinse it gently with salt water or milk—never plain water. If the root is intact, try to reinsert the tooth into the socket. If reinsertion isn’t possible, place the tooth in a glass of milk and bring your child to WSPD Kids right away.
For knocked-out baby teeth, do not attempt to reinsert them. Instead, bring your child to WSPD Kids as soon as possible for evaluation and appropriate care.
